Yeah, the northern white rino story is a sad one. There’s a huge amount of interest in rewilding critically endangered and extinct animals, which may make a lot of this reversible. The company I’m currently at is working on some of this. But as you said, those efforts really require the regions to be stable enough which they historically have not been.
