Good roundup of news, David. I'd enjoy seeing more of these bitesize bits of biotech info. I teach a bit of protein structure stuff so the AI-driven antibody design piques my interest a lot.

Thanks, Nathan. I tend to consume a lot of this information involuntarily just by being around biotech, so it seems like a good opportunity to share.

When will we learn what type of professor you are and about your research?

Sorry David I somehow missed this reply yesterday.

Haha, I dunno, I'm not sure if that'll come out here. I feel exposed enough having my picture on my profile at the moment ;)

I am merely "Dr" in title. The route to A/prof and then Prof in Australia is quite difficult and my struggles with securing enough consistent research funding hamper that process for me unfortunately.

You're plenty handsome, don't worry about that haha. But I do find it interesting to learn how people find their way into various careers, particularly in research. Consider sharing in the future!

It's interesting to see your perspective on academia struggles. I have seen comments from even famous researchers such as Peter Higgs (Higgs boson theorist); his comment was something along the lines of "today I wouldn't get an academic job. It's as simple as that. I don't think I would be regarded as productive enough."

Either way, you have quite a gift for writing. I was a very disillusioned academic before pivoting to the startup world.

Thanks David. I'll consider sharing the story. I hadn't really thought about it before, to be honest. Plus, I'd be really interested to hear your story, too.

That quote from Peter Higgs feels absolutely spot on!
